Mr Nezar Tumia

Is an experienced senior orthopaedic consultant surgeon with over 30 years of expertise in hip and knee surgery. He completed his advanced specialty training in Aberdeen, following the award of an MD (Doctorate of Medicine) for his research in cartilage regeneration. His work has been widely published and presented at both national and international conferences.

In 2007, Mr Tumia undertook a prestigious fellowship in complex hip and knee joint reconstruction at the renowned St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.

His extensive experience covers both primary and revision (re-do) joint replacement procedures, utilising a range of conventional and advanced implant technologies, including ceramic components and surface replacement. He also has a special interest in hip and knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), particularly in managing sports-related injuries.

In the field of knee replacement, Mr Tumia offers expertise in various types of partial knee replacements, including patellofemoral (kneecap) and unicompartmental replacement.

Mr Tumia has performed a high volume of hip and knee replacements, consistently achieving excellent outcomes and patient satisfaction. He is dedicated to helping his patients return to their preferred level of activity and enjoy an improved quality of life.

His past research interests included computer-guided hip resurfacing, recovery following hip resurfacing, wound infection, and knee cartilage and tissue engineering. He has published and presented his work both nationally and internationally, and received the Best Paper Award in Germany in 2009
